Driving With Suspended License Penalties in NJ
If this is your first offense, you will be exposed to a $500.00 fine, surcharges by the Motor Vehicle Commission totaling $250.00 per year for 3 years, and you will lose your driver’s license for up to 6 months. Second time offenders will be fined $750.00, serve not more than 5 days in county jail, be assessed surcharges by the Motor Vehicle Commission of $250.00 per year for 3 years, and again lose your driver’s license for up to 6 months. For a third DWS offense, you will be fined $1000.00, face a mandatory 10 days in county jail, be assessed surcharges by the Motor Vehicle Commission and lose your driver’s license for up to 6 months. If while operating your vehicle in violation of the Driving While Suspended statute you were involved in an accident resulting in personal injury to another person, the court must impose a jail term of not less than 45 days.
License Suspension for DWI in New Jersey
In instances where your license was suspended as a result of DWI, a driving while suspended violation will expose you to a criminal offense (2C:40-26) and enhanced punishments.
